Is your exfoliating soap making your skin darker? Read this.

So many soaps at the supermarket are listed as EXFOLIATING SOAPS yet most people use them like regular soaps which is wrong. Skin care specialist recommend exfoliating 2-3 weekly to remove dead skin cells and improve the look, feel and health of your skin.

If you use these exfoliating soaps daily then the risk is that you may actually be doing more damage to your skin. Initially it will appears as if your skin condition has improved as it becomes smoother, softer and brighter. Later the situation could rapidly get worse as your skin begins to suffer from over exfoliation which could lead to skin reactions, redness, itching and darkening of the complexion. The risk of sun damage also becomes greater as the outer protective skin layer becomes thinner and loses its ability to protect the body from UV radiation. This can lead to sun burn and other forms of sun damage.

This is one of the reasons why many consumers complain that a soap "...has stopped working and is making me dark..."
The solution is to make sure your daily tablet soap or bath wash is not an exfoliating products. Simply read the label and ensure that your daily soap is not an exfoliating soap. If you see "exfoliate" then it means that soap should not be used more than 3 times weekly. Also look out for exfoliating ingredients such as apricot seed powder, salicyclic acid and lactic acid.

Ideally everyone should have two kinds of soap in the bathroom - an exfoliating soap and a regular (or daily) soap.
