Encouraging the Spirit of Entrepreneurship in Our Young People-Part 3

It’s not good that so many young people graduate straight out of school and spend years waiting for non-existent jobs. Locally, our economy appears to be getting worse, however, opportunities abound for those willing to be creative and work hard. Ironic that we have so many B. Eng graduates and OND/HND technicians loitering the streets looking for jobs, yet 9 out of 10 mechanics have little or no education. Mechanics make good money in case you didn’t know. Okay, how big do you think the vehicle maintenance industry is in Nigeria? Our population is close to 180 million people. Many millions drive cars and of course, we have buses, trucks, bikes and keke. How easy is it to get a capable mechanic? Not so easy, right? Yet young capable engineers sit at home and become liabilities to their parents/guardians instead of assets. As little as 2 years of rolling up their sleeves and learning in the mechanic trenches can start a process of turning these young, bright "certificate wielding" liabilities into cash cow assets. Do they have the motivation? Do they have the guts? It can be done. Our youngsters need better guidance and a better direction. Entrepreneurship is the ONLY way forward. (Image: breitbart.com)
