6 Reasons you should read INGREDIENT labels

sistersinhealth.com

It is important to read the list of ingredients on reverse side of any product before making a purchase. This includes lotions, creams, cleansers, soap, body oil, and even deodorants. This simple process will enable you to make right choices and save money. Many of us are sensitive to different substances. We can sometimes react to a product not because it is adulterated or fake but because we are sensitive to it.
Checking product labels is not a waste of time. Here are some important tips to keep in mind.

1. It is not all about NAFDAC Number

The NAFDAC and expiry date are not the only items you should look for. Keep an eye out for dangerous names such as mercury or formaldehyde. There are thousands of products with different formulations. Many are not suitable for you and your family.

      2. Get familiar with yourself

What product do you love? Why do you like it? What makes it good for you? Read its labels. Usually the first 4-5 items listed will give you an idea since it makes up the bulk of the product by weight. Feel free to research as many items as you can.

      3. Stick to what works

Sometimes being adventurous can be risky in beauty care. If you have sensitive skin or have a medical history of allergic reactions please be cautious in changing products. Remember what they say, “The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know”

     4.  Upgrade

Get sophisticated. This is your health we are discussing here. Nothing is worse than getting an embarrassing skin reaction because you purchased the wrong product. Similarly, it can be awesome when your product creates a “wow!” reaction from family and friends.

Download an ingredients list or refer to an ingredients dictionary if you see something you do not understand. I listed two helpful links below. There are many others.

      6. Practice makes perfect

The more you do this, the easier it becomes. With time you will actually be able to smell if a product is good for you (okay, that is a bit of an exaggeration but you get the point, right?) This will deliver loads of positive benefits for you and your whole family in health terms. It could also potentially save you time and money from buying what you do not need or cannot use.

That is it. Reading labels is good for you...period.
