Its
interesting how we have prejudices about certain things without actually
understanding them. For instance how does anybody get an impression that
tattoos or tattoo artists are bad. Lets put this within the context of other crazy human endeavors such as makeup, haircuts, clothing and even perfumes. These things
have only a superficial significance in most cases. They are usually not a good
measure of other positive human qualities in a person.
For instance,
when was the last time we hated somebody for wearing a hat? When last did we
hate somebody for wearing odd colour shoes. Its mostly superficial. We normally
don’t take these things too seriously.
From a very
young age however, most of us got the impression that the only people that wear
tattoos are gangsters, bikers (like Charlie Boy), punks and drug addicts. The
existing TV and pop culture then usually enforced these perceptions and stereotypes.
I actually know that I am a victim of this kind of thinking. Well, maybe that's
not 100% true because as adults we share the blame by re-enforcing it and passing
it on to our kids.
But today I
see all these people wearing some cool tattoos. Normal people mostly. People like you and
me. I am by no means saying everyone should just go out and get tattoos all
over. All I am suggesting is that maybe its not such a big deal. Learning more
about it and researching the industry has made me more open to the idea.
The tattoo
is just a way of expression. In a world where everybody wants to follow a
trend, maybe this a way of saying “…hey, I’m different, I’m special…”
If that’s the
case, then I have absolutely no problem with that.
